To prepare the crayons for this DIY project, you'll want to take the paper wrapping off each crayon color to include in this lipstick recipe. Don't worry, you can always add and subtract once you get the basic color blending concept. Once you have removed the paper wrapping from each crayon, you're going to want to take a knife or scissors and break the crayon evenly into fourths or for even pieces as best you can.
Melting Crayons
To melt your crayon color selections for your lipstick recipe, turn on a single burner to high heat and fill your saucepan to the halfway point with water and bring to a boil.Once you reach the boiling point, reduce the heat to low to medium heat. Then place the metal mixing bowl on top of the sauce pan, making sure water does not enter the metal bowl. in this diy recipe, this will serve as a makeshift double burner for you to melt your crayon color selections and additional ingredients to create a queue base for your lipstick.
Add your crayon colors to the double burner until melted completely into a liquid. Don't be afraid to explore with different colors. you can use a fork to mix and pat the crayon and/or crayon color selections until it a smooth liquid form until you reach your desired color. Then reduce the heat to low temperature setting.
Additional Ingredients
Now it's time to add in the additional ingredients. We prefer using coconut oil, but if you have Shea butter or petroleum jelly that works just as well. on low heat, for each quarter or piece of crayon added to melt and solidify, you will add half a teaspoon of coconut oil. the coconut oil is added to lock in moisture and to ensure an easy and long lasting lipstick application.
After all ingredients have been melted together and you are pleased with the hue of color, with a pair of oven mitts, remove the metal bowl from the top of the sauce pan then pour* into your favorite lipstick container, mold or empty lipstick tube. You can also use a contact lens container which has double sides which will allow you to store two different colors in one container.
*I prefer to for into a measuring cup before pouring liquid lipstick into its container or to avoid any spilling.
Molding
Once you have poured all of the liquid into your container, it's now time for your lipstick to mold and cool. Molding and cooling generally takes a couple of hours to solidify. to solidify your lipstick from this diy lipstick recipe simply place your container(s) in the refrigerator for 3 to 8 hours and and viola! You have have your own lipstick cosmetics from just a few diy steps that can save you money and safeguard your health.
